Liberia is a tiny country on the west coast of Africa. It’s lush with rainforest and exotic beaches, yet the poverty rate soars in comparison to some of the other African countries. Although founded by free African-Americans and freed slaves from the United States in 1820, it is often referred to as “America’s step child” Although Liberia still has ties with the US, it has been isolated in a sense from the rest of the world. Civil War has also contributed to the effects on its people, with gender based violence a top on the crime list.
